Escape from Tarkov - Services, Trunk Sizes & Strategies
The BTR-82A is an armored personnel carrier available in Escape from Tarkov. It patrols designated routes on Woods and Streets of Tarkov, offering taxi services, covering fire, and item extraction to players who have enough roubles on them. This guide covers everything you need to know about the BTR's services, pricing, trunk storage, and mechanics.
The BTR can be found in most raids on Streets of Tarkov and Woods, traveling between different stops. It's neutral to all players, unless a player shoots at it first, or someone has purchased the "covering fire" service and is currently travelling in the BTR. Traitor Scavs are considered hostiles. It stays for approximately 2 minutes at each stop on it's route, and honks twice 10 seconds before departure.
The driver offers various services to his up to 4 passengers. Service costs depend on PMC faction, Scav karma, Charisma skill level and travel distance.
| Service | USEC | BEAR | Scav |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taxi service | ₽11,250 | ₽7,500 | ₽6,000 |
| Covering fire | ₽75,000 | ₽50,000 | ₽40,000 |
| Item extraction (per slot) | ₽750 + 7.5% | ₽500 + 5% | N/A |
Prices shown are base rates. Actual costs are influenced by Scav karma, Charisma skill level, and travel distance.
Players can pay for covering fire so the BTR automatically attacks enemies while driving along to your chosen stop, which provides the safest possible drop-off at a stop. Only available after purchasing the taxi service.
If someone purchases this service, the BTR becomes hostile to all other players in the area. When the service ends, the BTR returns to its neutral state for all players again.
PMCs can send items with found in raid status to their stash by placing them in the BTR trunk. Items will arrive after 1 hour via the in-game mail system. The size of the BTR trunk is influenced by your Scav karma, higher karma means more storage space.

How does the tracker account for players who have used the BTR?
Unfortunately it is not possible to maintain route accuracy if a player has taken the BTR to a stop in-raid before you access it.
How accurate are the BTR arrival times?
Arrival times have a 1-2 minute variance window due to BTR spawn timing variation. The tracker shows arrival time ranges (e.g. "in 2:30 - 4:30 minutes") to account for this uncertainty.
Does the BTR spawn every raid?
On Woods, the BTR spawns in approximately 80% of raids. On Streets of Tarkov, it appears around 70%. If you don't see it at the expected time, it may not have spawned this raid or been taken by another player.
What services does the BTR offer?
Three primary services: Taxi (safe transport to other stops), Item Extraction (sending FIR items to your stash for a fee), and Covering Fire. Costs are roughly half price for BEARs compared to USECs.
How does the trunk size work?
The BTR trunk size scales with your Scav karma. At the lowest tier (-0.99 to 0.99 rep), you get a 5×2 trunk (10 slots). At 6+ rep, this expands to 7×4 (28 slots). Use the interactive visualizer above to see exact sizes for each tier.
Can Scavs use the BTR?
Yes, Scavs can use the taxi service and covering fire at reduced prices. However, item extraction is not available to Scavs.
